Mafia fugitive wife arrested

ROME-Chiara Rizzo, the wife of Amedeo Matacena, has been arrested by the Reggio Calabria anti-Mafia department (DIA) on the suspicion of mafia association.

Ms Rizzo was apparently surprised to find police waiting at the bottom of the stairs whilst shopping Monday to inform her of their warrant for her arrest.  Along with Chiara Rizzo, the anti mafia police also arrested Mr Matacena’s 80-year-old mother, Raffaella De Carolis.

Mr Matacena was distraught after having heard the news of his wife’s arrest; “I feel devastated.  How would you feel if your mother had been arrested, your wife was in prison and your children had been left alone?”

Former minister Claudio Scajola, who is being held at Regina Coeli prison after his arrest on suspicion of helping Amedeo Matacena escape, stated that Chiara Rizzo “is not only a beautiful woman, but a woman with guts.  She returned to do the interrogation and she wasn’t scared.  She couldn’t be found, but instead she wants to be heard.”

Appearing in a blue jacket and trousers, a pair of Churches and with a neatly shaven beard, Mr Scajola looks like a member of parliament despite being deprived of a tie, belt and shoelaces in order to prevent any suicide attempts.

During a visit from Lucio Barani, the senator of GAL, Scajola responded; “How am I? And how should I be? They have taken good care of me after a recent minor indisposition. But don’t expect to see me ill. I want to be like Andreotti who was kept alert until the very end so that he was able to face all the shame and accusations that they dumped on him.” Mr Scajola added, “I haven’t even had a shower, I wash bits at a time so there is no chance of me getting a cold. I know what to say, they have absolutely nothing against me. They’re all lies.”

Before leaving, Ex Minister Scajola had one last request “call my wife and get her to bring me a pair of comfortable shoes? I can’t cope anymore with these hard, rigid things”.
