Perugino's Madonna with Child to be restored

ROME - The Ministry of Culture and Tourism has announced that, after three weeks of voting online, participants have chosen to restore Perugino's Madonna with Child as the first phase of the Art Helps the Art project.
 
The initiative, sponsored by the Directorate General for the Promotion of Cultural Heritage, allocates the proceeds of entrance tickets for One Saturday at the Museum to the restoration of a work of art chosen by users on the Mibact website.
 
The artwork selected out of a shortlist of eight proposals was Madonna with Child, by Pietro Vannucci "Perugino". The artwork is preserved at the Museum of Capodimonte in Naples.
 
Over two thousand people actively participated in the project Art Helps the Art, and from the analysis of the sample of the voters, the most active regions in expressing preferences were: Campania ( 21%), Lazio (17% ), Lombardy (10% ), and Tuscany ( 9%). In addition, 73 percent of voters were women, 53 percent were youths between 18 and 35 years old, and 51 percent were college graduates.
 
"I am very pleased with the success of this project, which has attracted the interest of many young, active on the web and social networks," said the Minister of Heritage and Cultural Activities and Tourism, Massimo Bray. "The many comments encourage citizens to work in this direction, opening up more and more choices regarding the sharing of our cultural heritage," Signor Bray concluded.
 
"With this online consultation," added the Director General for the Promotion, Anna Maria Buzzi, "we wanted to give a concrete sign that the institutions give attention to the opinions of citizens, putting the visitor at the center of our initiative. In particular I am very happy for the great adhesion shown by Campania , which has demonstrated high sense of civic duty and desire of youth participation."
