Former Olympian shares fitness secrets

Jury Chechi
ROME - Olympic gymnastics champion Jury Chechi is hosting a new television programme that takes the audience on a journey through sports while teaching viewers how to stay fit past the age of 50.

Throughout the programme, "More strength in life", the former Olympian-turned-personal trainer will share stories from a remarkable cast of elderly athletes who regularly participate in sports, ranging from fencing to open seas swimming. However the programme does not just focus on these personal stories of achievement, it also serves to benefit the viewers by providing important fitness information. The aim of the programme is to "explain to the audience at home how to keep in good shape even after 50 years, or after a type of muscle or orthopedic trauma," says Signor Chechi, who is often called "The Lord of the Rings" in reference to his many victories using the artistic gymnastics apparatus.

The programme is conducted with the help of a scientific team, led by Professor Francesco Landi who works in the Department of Geriatrics, Orthopedics, and Neurosciences at the Policlinico Gemelli in Rome, which provides the fitness information throughout the programme. "The two fundamental strategies to prevent and treat sarcopenia are exercise and a balanced diet, in particular through adequate protein," says Professor Landi. "The contribution of specific amino acids, such as HMB, helps to maintain or regain lost muscle mass and strength after periods of immoblility or during the natural aging process," the professor explains.

Such amino acids are now readily available to the public in the form of nutritional supplements produced by "More strength in life" sponsor, Abbott, a world leader in nutrition and health. The company has spent many years engaging in educational projects aimed at understanding and preventing sarcopenia, while also developing health solutions for people in all stages of life.

The programme will also feature several special guests from all over the world of sports. Those already confirmed to appear include: Ciccio Graziani, Andrew Lucchetta, Fiona May, Adriano Panatta, Nicola Pietrangeli, and Antonio Rossi.

"More strength in life" will premiere this Wednesday and continue every Wednesday for ten weeks at 8:45pm on Sky Sports 2 HD.
