ROME -  Laila Sumpton, current poet in residence at the Keats-Shelley House and British Council will be giving three special public workshops on creative writing at the Keats-Shelley House, Rome on Oct. 26 from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm and from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm and on Oct. 27 from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm.

Workshop descriptions:

On Friday Oct. 26 at 3:30 pm the subject will be "Travel Poetry". A workshop about taking readers on a journey and bringing cities to life on the page using all of the senses.
Also will be writing poetry postcards, city haiku’s and learning how to turn the city into a character with a distinct personality. The class will look at how to build vivid descriptions using words economically, and how and when to break the line.

On Friday Oct. 27 at 5:00 pm the subject will be "Lost property". A workshop that will use writing exercises to explore the stories of lost and forgotten objects in a los property box. What secrets do they hold, who were their owners and how did they come to be discarded? We will look at how to personify objects and use mystery in our story telling.

On Saturday Oct. 27 at 11:00 am the subject will be "Writing your Childhood". It will study which voice or perspective writer's use when writing poetry about childhood memories? This workshop uses writing exercises to explore writing in different tenses and from both adult and child’s perspective. It will also look at how poets have written about their own childhoods, how one responds to fairy tales as children and how to shape and structure our own memories.

Numbers are limited. Call on 06 678 4235 to find out more information and to reserve your place, or email us at info@keats-shelley-house.org. The workshop will be in
