Pianist Mario Bertoncini to perform at new electronic festival

ROME- An electronic music festival 'Emufest' starts Sunday Oct. 7 and will feature composer, writer, and pianist Mario Bertoncini on Tuesday at 8:30pm. 

Bertoncini was born in Rome and has studied music composition, piano, and electronic music. In 1974 he was made an Artist-in-Residence at the German Academic Exchange Service in Berlin where he created open air kinetic sound-sculptures for presentation at the Berliner Festwochen. In 1975-1976 he worked on the music faculty of McGill University in Montréal. 

From 1980 until his retirement in 2004 he taught on the music faculty of the Berlin University of the Arts.

On Tuesday night Bertoncini will play a piece of his called Epitaffio, which uses an excerpt from Henry Miller’s "Tropic of Cancer", ‘As luck would have it I find a ticket for a concert in the Lavabo...'.  Bertoncini will then play two John Cage pieces. 

The festival is Oct. 7-17 at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory on Via dei Greci 18, Rome.
