VATICAN CITY -- At the Regina Coeli on Sunday, Pope Francis called for an end to the recent violence in Sudan, according to the Vatican Press Office.

"Unfortunately, the situation in Sudan remains serious," said the pontiff, "Therefore, I renew my appeal for the violence to cease as soon as possible and for the path of dialogue to be resumed."

The pope then invited his audience to pray for Sudanese citizens.

Following his appeal, the pope shared optimism for his upcoming Apostolic Journey to Hungary next week. He also led his audience in another prayer for the Ukranian people, "still afflicted by war."
