BAG University - Open for Learning

Bo Guerreschi, founder and CEO of bon’t worry.

ROME – An innovative new approach to learning for Italians has been proposed by NGO bon’t worry’s leader, Bo Guerreschi. “Training third sector professionals for a more economically, governmentally and environmentally sustainable society,” is the proposed university’s mission statement.

Dr. Guerreschi, an expert in gender-based violence, abuse of power, and a key proponent in pushing for a more equitable Italy, is taking a step to a better higher education system for all Italians. The program is called BAG university, and hopes to offer degree seeking courses in law, psychological sciences, environmental legislation, and general communications. BAG would be an English taught university, mirroring the American higher education way of teaching, including small class sizes, encouragement towards personal private research, and a foundational international atmosphere.

Dr. Gurreschi’s inspiration for the educational programs is the lack of this type of schooling in Italy. Italy’s higher education programs do not yet have intensive social justice programs or schools teaching about psychology and its role in Italian society in this comprehensive and international fashion. Bon’t worry, after establishing BAG university in Italy, then plans to move to the US to expand the programs.

The law courses, stemming from the mission of bon’t worry, will offer disciplines focusing on gender-based violence and environmental and climate sustainability. Students taking higher level courses will be invited to participate in international BAG conferences and visit partner universities to compound their experience.

Bon’t worry’s past work in prisons and mental health facilities offers a unique opportunity for psychology students, offering specialisations in PTSD, DTD, and the effects of trauma. Students have access to systematic and up-to-date knowledge about biopsychological, cognitive, emotional, and social processes as well as theoretical-operational skills relating to psychological investigation methods and techniques. Students who wish to grow their impact and research in global psychology have the option of specializations in post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic developmental disorder and child sexual abuse.

The communications department “promotes the development of intellectual ethical reasoning to enable students to assume leadership roles and make a difference in the world,” Gurreschi says.

BAG university will also implement extracurricular opportunities to heighten the learning experience, such as exchange programmes like Erasmus, a career services centre with internship opportunities and training seminars, maintaining a work preparation already in your first year in Italy and/or abroad.

Italian students will be entitled to receive financial help at BAG university and all students will volunteer 15 hours per month in genuine charity work to obtain credits for their degree. The aim is to expand jobs and revive the local economy.

Dr. Guerreschi hopes to alleviate some of the economic and employment troubles that Italians are facing today. BAG university will be a place not only for university students to obtain a degree, but also for young professionals to train and gain more experience in their fields. While educating students for successful careers in a tough job market, BAG’s main purpose is to cultivate better people for a better world, in Italy and abroad.
