Double homicide in Catania after lemon theft

The two victims were Vito Cunsolo and Virgilio Cunsolo Terrano

 CATANIA - Two men were found dead on Wednesday 22 June in Pennisi, Catania. The victims were two cousins aged 29 and 30 and according to an initial investigation, were killed after being caught robbing lemons.

The 70 year old landowner Giuseppe Battiato has confessed to doing it. He maintained that he was exasperated by the continued theft from his citrus grove. The investigation is currently with the Acireale police force with the leading line of investigation the probable retaliation for agricultural theft.

 The two victims are Vito Cunsolo and Virgilio Cunsolo Terrano. Their bodies were discovered by the police having been alerted by some of the family. Relatives began to get worried after the two had not returned home. On the scene for the investigation in addition to the forces from Acireale, was the provincial command from Catania who throughout the night interrogated the friends and relatives of the cousins.

 Many of the grieving, who lived in the Village of Sant’Agata, arrived at the field where the two cousins were found dead. There were some moments of tension with the military forces, who were at the time checking the positions of the people assigned to guarding the area, which is mainly cultivated with lemons.
