VATICAN CITY – Pope Francis said in a tweet dedicated to women that he is praying for mothers with children escaping from the war in Ukraine, as reported by Ansa news agency.

“I think of young mothers and their children fleeing the war and famine or waiting in refugee camps. There are so many of them!” The pope wrote on Women's Day, Tuesday.

Francis also repeated in his message a call for peace in Ukraine. He used Ukrainian and Russian in addition to the nine official languages of his account.

“May the Queen of Peace obtain harmony in our hearts and the whole world,” wrote the pontiff, accompanied by a photo that showed him praying in front of the icon of Mary holding her the baby Jesus in her arms.
