Obligatory facemask outdoors rule scrapped

ROME – Italian Health Minister Roberto Speranza has announced that wearing facemasks outside will no longer be required from Friday onwards, with the exception of outdoor gatherings, such as demonstrations.

Facemasks are still required in public indoor spaces until March 31, at which point the rule will be reviewed.

Other measures will stay the same, including social distancing - keeping at least one metre of space between oneself and other people.

The order is also valid for the regions with higher rates of infection, such as the autonomous provinces of Trento and Bolzano.
