ROME -- An Azerbaijani inter-faith delegation climaxed a five day visit to the Vatican Monday by reiterating an appeal for Pope Francis to mediate a peace agreement between Baku and Armenia.

The delegation was led by Sheikh Allahshukur Hummat Oashazade and included Orthodox and Muslim leaders and the Roman Catholic Bishop of Baku. They were accompanied by the Azerbaijani Ambassador to the Holy See, HE Rahman Mustfayev.
During their sojourn the delegation were shown the results of a number of restoration projects sponsored by Azerbaijan in Rome including digitalisation of historic manuscripts in the Vatican Library and restoration of parts of the Sistine Chapel.
Ambassador Mustfayev reiterated an appeal made in November for the pontiff to mediate to help the establishment of a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia following   the end to hostilities over the disputed territory of Nagorny Karabakh.
