One dead and several injured after minibus crash on Capri

  MARINA GRANDE - One person was killed and at least four were seriously injured after a minibus veered off the road and crashed through a guard rail, falling nearly six metres, on the island of Capri, off Naples, at around 11:30 on Thursday morning. The bus ended up on the path behind some beach huts, just a few metres from the busy beach.

  The driver was killed instantly, and 19 people, including 11 passengers, were rushed to the nearby Capilupi hospital. A helicopter was deployed to transport the most severely injured, inclduing a hild with a double fracture who was taken to the Ospedale del Mare in Naples.

  The funicular that carries passengers from Marina Grande was out of order on the day of the crash, and as result the roads of Capri were particularly full, combined also with the countless tourists.

  One of those in the public pool at the time said afterwards, "We threw ourselves into the water, we feared a building had collapsed."
