Raphael in Finland

Raphael, 'La Velata'

SAVONLINNA - The exhibition entitled Raffaello Portraits, part of the worldwide project Opera Omnia, promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Raicom, last June 15th opened to the public in Savonlinna, Finland, at the Nälkälinnanmäki exhibition space. .

The exhibition, curated by the art historian Professor Antonio Paolucci, presents to the public life-size reproductions of fourteen wonderful works by the great Italian Renaissance master Raphael, whose 500th anniversary of his death was commemorated in 2020.

Thanks to the use of innovative techniques, starting from the photographs of the RAI archives, the reproductions of the paintings, in full size, retain all the details, shades and colors of the originals. The backlight system and a special support structure allows an optimal view of the works from every angle. In addition, a multimedia and interactive structure allows the public to discover the life and works of Raphael.

The exhibition, which has already made stops in Tunis and Ankara, will continue in Priština after leaving Finland. It is carried out in collaboration with: Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Raicom, Opera Omnia, Municipality of Savonlinna, Samiedu, Okabex Arts, Savonlinna Music Academy

This initiative is part of the Opera Omnia project, commissioned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and by RAI, Italian Radio and Television. It was born from the awareness that the entire artistic heritage of Leonardo, Raphael, Caravaggio and other masters of painting is scattered around the world in various museums, churches and private collections, making it impossible to carry out large monographic exhibitions. With Opera Omnia, however, through reproductions faithful to the original works and in very high definition, viewers can admire, in a single exhibition space, the creations of the great masters of our culture.

The collaboration with Professor Antonio Paolucci, one of the leading art experts in Italy and in the world and curator of the exhibition, also certifies the scientific rigour that is at the basis of the project.
