Dutch tourist disappears after swim in Lake Bracciano

BRACCIANO - A young Dutch tourist has disappeared after going for a swim by himself in Lake Bracciano, with alarms being raised after he failed to return for two hours.

On Friday morning the 22-year-old Dutch man had gone for a swim in the Lazio lake. His 34-year-old friend and compatriot called emergency services after not seeing him for two hours. A search immediately began but no trace of him could be found.

It is thought that he swam the length of the beach, to the adjacent Parco del Lago, and was seen for the last time around Riva del Polline.

The two tourists had been camping nearby when the younger of the two had decided to take a swim, setting out in the direction of Trevignano Romano at around 10:30 in the morning, according to his friend.

Several emergency services were engaged in the search, including boats of the Carabinieri and Protezione Civile, but nothing has yet been found.
