Euros 2020 ready for kick off in Rome

ROME - Here we go: a short time until the start of UEFA EURO 2020. The first match will kick off on Jun 11 at Rome's Stadio Olimpico, with the inaugural match between Turkey and Italy. The show, however, is not only on the field. In fact, the city of Rome, in synergy with UEFA and FIGC, is ready to welcome thousands of fans into the squares and streets of the Eternal City.

The heart of the initiatives will be the Football Village in Piazza del Popolo and the 4 Hot Spots near via del Corso (Piazza San Silvestro, Piazza San Lorenzo in Lucina, Piazza Mignanelli, Largo dei Lombardi). In the shadow of the Obelisk in Piazza del Popolo, there will be dozens of events and activities until the end of Tournament, in full compliance with the finalized health safety protocols to the prevention and containment of Covid-19: two big screens to see the football matches, a stage and ten stands made available by sponsors and by the partners of the city of Rome. There will be also sport: visitors will be able to compete for free in a 3 vs 3 soccer event.

Overall, these structures will make up the Fan Zone and the fittings will begin in the next few days, to be ready on 11 June. On that day, the Mobility Makers will also come into play. They, together with professional sign language interpreters, will provide assistance to citizens and tourists in all activities related to UEFA EURO 2020.

The evening before the opening match, videomapping will be staged in Piazza del Campidoglio, created by Filmmaster Events, Local Operator of Rome. Through a show of lights and sounds, with live performances, the history of Italy at the European Championships will be retraced, projected on the Capitol, as seen from the eyes of a fan. A Food Area will be set up on the Terrazza del Pincio, which will allow to taste the main proposals of the Roman culinary and gastronomic tradition, enhancing the products of the territory. A few steps away, on 9 June, the Media Center will open its doors, a workplace and meeting place for all information professionals. A Dome will be organized immediately outside the Media Center, a dome that will offer entertainment activities within a diameter of 10 meters, with initiatives promoted by the FIGC.
