Curfew moves to 11 pm and 'green pass' details announced

ROME - The latest Prime Ministerial decree has ruled that the curfew will move from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m., with exceptions for special events, as will be defined by the Ministry of Health, such as the final of the Coppa Italia at 9 p.m. on Wednesday.

The decree, which came into action on Tuesday, the day it was published, detailed that the new curfew, despite being just a day old, also comes with expections for “events of particular importance,” the first being the Coppa Italia final between Atalanta and Juventus. For the 4,300 fans at the Mapei Stadium in Reggio Emilia, the curfew will be stretched to midnight.

This latest decree also included updates on the ‘green pass’ allowing greater freedom of movement from the vaccinated. The decree details that the green pass will be valid from 15 days after the first vaccination to nine months after the second. In this time, with more of Italy opening up, the vaccinated will have greater access to indoor events such as club nights and concerts, and will be allowed to travel throughout much of Europe.

Those who can prove a recent recovery from Covid-19, or a test within the last 48 hours, will also have access to many of the same benefits as the vaccinated.

Many more dates for reopening have also been set in stone for the country’s reopening, some earlier than was expected a few weeks ago, given the steadily decreasing contagion numbers. Gyms will reopen from May 24, not June 1 as was previously expected, and shopping centres at the weekend from May 22.

Theme parks are to reopen from June 15, not July 1, and restaurants will be allowed indoor table service in the evenings as well as at lunch from June 1.

Prime Minister Mario Draghi has said, “the strategy is vaccinations - which have considerably improved the situation - and compliance with the rules, the spacing protocols, the masks and everything we have learned to do in this last year and a half.”
