Man arrested for involvement in Nice 2016 truck attack

CASERTA - A 28 year old Albanian man has been arrested in Speranise, accused of aiding the perpetrator of the 2016 Nice massacre, in which 86 people, including six Italians, were killed, police said Thursday.

Endri Elezi had a European mandate out for his arrest, issued by French authorities, for providing weapons to Mohamed Lahouaiej-Bouhlel.

On 14 July, 2016, Mohamed Lahouaiej-Bouhlel drove a 19-tonne truck into crowds of people on the Promenade Des Anglais in Nice, out celebrating Bastille Day, killing 86 and injuring an additional 458. He was shot and killed in a shootout with the police immediately following the massacre.

Elezi's arrest, which took place on Wednesday evening, was carried out after an operation by the General Investigations and Specials Operations Divisions (DIGOS) of Naples and Caserta, in conjunction with prosecutors in Naples.
