 ROME -- The Sant’Egidio religious community based in the capital greets the granting of the Nobel Peace Prize to Colombian president Juan Manuel Santos with joy, this Catholic community said Friday.

 Sant’Egidio strongly supports dialogue and negotiation as the only viable paths towards reaching the end of conflict. This is an important sign for a world in which, over the past few months, has been seen a dissemination of “the fractured Third World War” that Pope Francis mentions.

ROME -- Italian Defence Minister supports Polis Aperta -- a LGBT association for those working in the armed and police forces, and announces that she will celebrate the civil union of two women in Genoa, but while recognizing steps forward, the association highlights Friday the still predominant macho attitude of the army and police.

 The Italian Polis Aperta invited the Defence Minister, Roberta Pinotti, to their national conference Oct. 10 in Milan. She said she was not able to attend “despite sharing the spirit of this important event,” ‘Il Fatto Quotidiano’ reports.

 VATICAN CITY -- Pope Francis received the heads of Vodafone at the Holy See for a private meeting to discuss the mobile phone network giant’s “Instant Schools for Africa” project, the Vatican said Thursday.

 Vittorio Colao, the CEO of Vodafone, Gerard Kleisterlee, the company’s president, and Aldo Bisio, the administrative manager of Vodafone Italy, met with the pope Wednesday to talk about their “Instant Schools for Africa” project.
