 VATICAN CITY – Numerous cardinals living in the same apartment building as the new MacDonald’s restaurant near the St Anne's gate of Pope Francis' tiny city state are up in arms over the inauguration of the fast food dive, Il Messaggero reported Friday.

 It appears it is not just Borgo Pio rebelling against the new opening of a MacDonald’s restaurant in this historic quarter near Saint Peter’s square. Grumbles are also stemming from a number of cardinals, residents of the same building in which the colossal American fast-food chain are finishing off work on their new restaurant.

 ROME -- Istat, the state-run statistics institute, show the ‘Black economy’ in Italy is very much active, having risen to a value of 211 billion in 2014, worth 13 percent of the national GNP, Il Fatto Quotidiano reported Friday.

 Today, there are around 3.5 million workers in Italy’s black market, 180, 000 more than compared to 2013, whilst the number attributed to the trafficking of drugs, prostitution and tobacco contraband amounts to 1 percent of the national GNP. According to Istat, this underground economy was worth 13 percent of the GNP in 2014.

 ROME -- Disabled model, Manuela Migliaccio, claims Facebook censored her image on the runway at Milan Fashion Week due to “too much breast on show.”

 First it disappeared from the Facebook page for ‘Vertical’, an Italian research foundation for spinal cord injuries, and then from Migliaccio’s personal page. Finally, the ‘provocative’ photo was taken off the newsfeed entirely and erased from the history of the 300 users who shared it.

 NAPLES -- The city makes a political statement and publicly says ‘No’ to organised crime.

 The Southern Italian metropolis took a public stand against the camorra Tuesday in a City Council deliberation to compensate families of innocent mafia victims.

 In line with the European Union Guidelines, the City of Naples agreed to indemnify families of innocent mafia fatalities with one-time payment of 2000 Euros.

 ROME -- Kenny Jacobs, Ryanair’s Chief Marketing Officer, is banking on Italy’s south as a major new tourist destination particularly for Brits, even post-Brexit, ‘La Repubblica’ wrote Thursday.

 “Italy has numbers that can only improve -- we are ready to bet on the south, on Sicily and Calabria in particular, already over the next few months,” said Kenny Jacobs, Ryanair’s second-in-command, talking about the Irish airline company’s third-biggest market in Europe.

 SAVONA -- In the comune of Calizzano, a town of 1,545 inhabitants, to which over the past two years, 40 refugees have arrived, the mayor has introduced separate buses for locals and immigrants, the municipality said Thursday.

 Monday morning in Calizzano, 6:15 am, on the first bus of the day that goes to the city, it feels as if one is transported to Lagos, in Nigeria, ‘Il Fatto Quotidiano’ writes. This bus is for the black people -- the bus 15 minutes later is for the white.
