NICOSIA -- “There is no possibility of success” for the negotiations between the Greek-Cypriot president Nicos Anastasiades and his Turkish-Cypriot counterpart Mastafa Akinci about the reunification of the island within a single federal state, the Turkish-Cypriot foreign affairs minister Tashin Ertugruloglu told foreign journalists visiting Nicosia.
LATINA -- Police have arrested 16 people in this Lazio commune, including the ex-mayor Giovanni Di Giorgi, for crimes against public administration, police sources said Monday.
Orders of pre-trial detention have been given out to 16 people in Latina -- eight in prison and eight under house arrest, for crimes against public administration in an investigation by the competent magistrate Mara Mattioli, Il Fatto Quotidiano reports.

ROME -- The Tunisian terrorist Moez Fezzani, considered one of ISIS’s big recruiters in Italy -- also known as Abu Nassim, has been arrested in Sudan, antiterrorism sources said Monday.
The terrorist Moez Fezzani was part of a Milan-based faction of the ‘Salaphite Group for Preaching and Combat,’ from 1997-2001, which recruited men in order to send them to countries at war.
NORCIA -- Firefighters have begun the operations to return the façade of the Saint Benedict Basilica back to a secure state in this earthquake-stricken town, civil protection workers said Monday.
The building’s façade was damaged but managed to stay upright after the strong Oct. 30 earthquake, which made the rest of the church structure -- one of the town’s defining buildings -- crumble almost completely.
ROME -- Gianni and Piero, partners for years but “only as friends,” have decided to join in civil union next Saturday in Schio in the province of Vicenza, despite confirming that they are in fact “not gay.”
The pair have explained that their partnership is one of pure convenience, convinced that a civil union will allow them to access rights which they would otherwise be refused and will resolve practical issues they currently face.
PERUGIA – Rudy Guede, the only person definitively convicted for the sexual assault and brutal murder of British Meredith Kercher back on Nov. 1, 2007, was released on parole Saturday evening and shall be returned to prison Tuesday where he is serving a total of 16 years.
