 NAPLES -- Governor of the Campania Region, Vincenzo De Luca has been placed under investigation for statements he allegedly made during a Nov. 15 rally, addressing approximately 300 local administrators and urging them to procure ‘yes’ votes for the national referendum.

 In what started as the Public Prosecutor’s Office's decision to look into the facts they considered to be without suspect of law infraction on Nov. 24, has now turned into a hypothesis of a criminal act -- instigation into vote buying.

 ROME -- French multinational mass media conglomerate Vivendi took 12 percent in shares of media mogul Silvio Berlusconi's television empire Mediaset, and still aims for 20, causing a direct clash Wednesday between Vivendi and the Berlusconi’s Fininvest holding company.

 The French media company Vivendi, led by CEO of Bolloré investment group, Vincent Bolloré, announced Monday it had surpassed its threshold of 3 percent ownership of capital within Berlusconi’s Italian television empire Mediaset, following a significant ownership rise Tuesday to 12.32 percent.

 CATANIA -- The smuggler transporting migrants from Libya last year before the ship sank, causing the deaths of over 700 migrants, has been sentenced to 18 years in prison, judicial sources said Tuesday.

 The Preliminary Hearings Judge from Catania Daniela Monaco Crea has sentenced the captain of the smuggling operation during which a huge shipwreck caused the deaths of 700 migrants April 18, 2015, to 18 years in prison.
