The attackers held the Polish couple hostage on the beach of the popular northern Italian tourist resort Friday night. He was beaten up. She was raped. A transvestite from Peru was also later attacked, it is thought by the same men of swarthy appearance, suspected of being north Africans, police sources said.

CERIGNOLA - A man was shot and killed Thursday in this town in the province of Foggia in another apparent settling of scores between rival clans of the Sacra Corona Unità, the Apulian mafia, police said. The man was gunned down in an ambush on the road leading to Cerignola, in front of the cemetery. The killer fired their gun directly into the face of the victim.
