MILAN - Alberto Bianchi, owner of the company New Publigest and friend of Forza Italia leader Silvio Berlusconi, has been sentenced to two years and eight months in prison for an alleged tax fraud in connection with false invoices.

 According to the indictment from the Court of Milan, the non-existent transactions allowed Bianchi to collect money from Publitalia, the Mediaset group advertising agency, “without carrying out any work, while on paper he should have procured customers,” the Public Prosecutor's Office reported.

SASSARI – A delivery truck carrying milk to Nule in the province of Sassari, Sardinia, has been set alight by two hooded armed men who forced the driver out of the vehicle and tied him to a tree, police sources said on Tuesday.

 The attack came as protests over milk prices continued to escalate in Sardinia.

ROME - Italian Ambassador in London, Raffaele Trombetta will host an event on March 13 with the aim of trying to attract Italian talent to return to Italy.

 Collegio San Carlo, a highly renowned school in Milan, has decided to launch a recruitment campaign in London, between managers, students and professors. The rector, Don Alberto Torriani, found a safe shore in the Italian Embassy, where Ambassador Trombetta is distinguishing himself for activism in various fields, including schooling.

 The event will be held on March 13, at the Ambassador’s residence in London.

MELBOURNE - After a year off due to injury, Italian gymnast Vanessa Ferrari has won the 2019 Melbourne World Cup.

 After spending 2018 recovering from an injury to her Achilles tendon during the 2017 World Championships in Montreal, Ferrari returned to competition at this year’s Melbourne World Cup, the first World Cup in 2019 valid for the qualification to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

 She competed on balance beam and floor exercise, claiming the best score both in qualifying and in the final of the free body.

CAGLIARI – Centre-right candidate Christian Solinas won Sunday's regional elections in Sardinia, with over 47 per cent of the vote after the count at 930 of the 1,840 sections, followed by centre-left candidate Massimo Zedda with 33 per cent, who accepted defeat and wished Solinas well.

 “Today Sardinia won. I thank the Sardinians for their trust, the government project we presented was rewarded,” said Solinas.
