 VATICAN CITY – It has been suggested that there is a plot to engineer Pope Francis’ resignation. 

 Questions are being raised as to whether there is a coordinated attempt to get rid of him, Il Messaggero reported on Thursday.

 Arturo Sosa, the Jesuit Superior General, said – “There are sectors outside and inside the Vatican pushing for Francis’ resignation, with the ultimate aim of ensuring that the next pontiff acts in a way contrary to the guidelines expressed by the current pontificate.”

CAPRI – Supermodel and former Project Runway host Heidi Klum has copped flak for posting a topless Insta-pic while honeymooning in Italy with new husband Tom Kaulitz.

 The photo, which shows Klum wrapped in a towel with left nipple showing, is captioned, All I see is water.

 Many of her Instagram followers saw something else and criticized Klum, 46, saying she was too old to be exposing herself in this way.

 “All I see is nipple,” wrote one follower.

 “All I see is a midlife crisis,” commented another.

 ROME - The Open Arms ship has finally landed at Lampedusa.  All 81 migrants remaining on board have disembarked, following Agrigento prosecutor Luigi Patronaggio’s decision to seize the ship.

 The migrants are reported to be in a reasonable condition by local media, and were met with a welcome from groups of activists.  The Open Arms charity organisation tweeted images of the celebrations on board prior to the landing.

 ROME – August 24 marks 30 years since the death of Jerry Masslo.  His death, which greatly shocked and moved the Italian public, also called attention to racism and the exploitation of migrants in Italy.  The reaction to his murder led to important changes in Italian refugee law, significantly the removal of the requirement for refugees to be from certain countries.

 ROME -- Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte announced his resignation at the end of a speech to Parliament Tuesday explaining why his coalition Government couldn't continue. He was handing in his resignation to President Mattarella at the Quirinal Palace following the parliamentary debate, he said.

 In his speech, Mr Conte cited League leader and deputy prime minister Matteo Salvini's decision no longer to support the Government in coalition with the radical Five Star Movement party headed by Luigi Di Maio, as the reason for his resignation.

 GENOA - The Intercity Leghorn-Milan train has arrived four hours late following two breakdowns and an alleged attack on the conductor. The train had stopped at Arquata Scrivia following the breakdown of the engine, which had already been replaced at Genoa Pontedecimo. A tourist then assaulted the conductor. The 118 emergency medical service and the railway police were called.
