ROME – Archaeologists have found a sarcophagus in the Forum which could be the final resting place of the legendary founder of Rome, according to a press release on Monday from the Colosseum Archaeological Park.

  Underneath the entrance to the Curia, the place where Roman Senators would have voted in the Forum, archaeologists have discovered an empty sarcophagus which measures 1.40 meters long and is believed to date back to the 6th century BC.

 MILAN – Italian fashion house Dolce & Gabbana has joined forces with Humanitas University in the global fight against Coronavirus.

 The luxury brand is throwing its financial weight behind a study led by Professor Alberto Mantovani of Humanitas University into immune system responses to Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. 

 The study also harnesses the skills of Professor Elisa Vicenzi and Massimo Clementi, virologists at the San Raffaele Vita-Salute University who were the first in Italy to isolate the pathogen responsible for SARS.

POMPEI – The House of the Lovers, buried in the ash by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD, was reopened on Tuesday by the Director of Archaeology, Massimo Osanna, and the Italian Minister of Culture, Dario Franceschini. 

  Franceschini was there to confirm the end of the safety work which was started in 2014, and financed for the most part by way of 105 million euors in European funds delivered through the 'Great Pompeii Project'.

BRESCIA - An unnamed teenage girl has been investigated for allegedly blackmailing the football player Mario Balotelli, according to judicial sources. The Brescia judiciary have contacted colleagues from Vicenza, in order to evaluate the framework through which the accusations were made.

  The girl, 18, from Bassano del Grappa, accused the football player Mario Balotelli of having relationship with her when she was under age. She asked for 100 thousand euros in change for her silence, otherwise she would have turned in the football player to the police for sexual violence.

 LONDON – Jeremy Irons, Maggie Smith and Ian McKellen are among the luminaries celebrating the life and work of Italian film director Franco Zeffirelli at a special commemorative event in London on Sunday. 

 Some 100 friends and collaborators gathered at the Italian Embassy at Grosvenor Square to share their memories of the famed auteur, who died in Rome last June, aged 96.

 In a career spanning more than 60 years, Zeffirelli was nominated for an Academy Award for his 1968 silver screen adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.

ROME – Lazio dispatched Inter Milan with a 2-1 victory on Sunday, and displayed the physical and mental attributes needed to win Serie A for the first time in 20 years.

   In a highly tactical performance, Lazio pressurised Inter throughout a goalless first half, but fell behind when Inter struck through a volley by Ashley Young. The ball fell helpfully at the ex-Manchester United player's feet, and he thumped in his first goal for Inter Milan on the full.

VATICAN CITY – Pope Francis’ ‘Dear Amazon’ papal document in relation to requests from the Amazon Synod, has been heavily criticised by the leading Catholic reformist movement ‘We Are Church – International’ (WAC-I). In a press release on Thursday entitled ‘Pope’s Response to Amazon Synod Fails to Respond to Church Members’ Needs’, the group has said that the response shows that “the Roman Catholic hierarchy lacks the courage and vision needed to address the real needs of the world and its people.”
