VATICAN CITY – The crowded annual Easter celebrations set for April are at risk of cancellation, reports Il Messaggero. Last week there were informal consultations between bishops and the government, where concerns were raised about the weekday mass celebrations in the regions effected by coronavirus in the north of Italy.

  The number of coronavirus cases stands at 3089. The death toll has risen to 107, with 258 people in intensive care, report Il Fatto Quotidiano. On Wednesday the government responded with a decree which closed schools, universities, and events.

ROME – The Italian government has declared that all schools and universities are closed until at least March 15, following the government's consultation with a scientific committee at the Palazzo Chigi on Wednesday morning. The number of coronavirus cases in Italy has increased to 3089, according to Il Fatto Quotidiano. The total number of victims in Italy stands at 107, with 88 per cent having occurred the regions of Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, and Veneto, in the north of Italy. The number of people who have recovered has increased to 276.

ROME – A former Italian admiral, Matteo Bisceglia, is under investigation for the alleged rigging of defence contracts after the interception of hundreds of phone calls, according to judicial sources. Mr. Bisceglia was chief inspector admiral until Sept. 18 2019, and through his role as head of the Naval Armaments Directorate of Rome, allegedly involved himself with companies to which he subcontracted naval projects.

ROME – A satirical video clip, broadcast by the French TV station ‘Canal +’ and circulated online during Tuesday morning, has caused Italian politicians to defend their food products and call for an apology. In the video, a stereotypical Italian chef, replete with mustache and chef's hat, is shown to cough phlem onto a freshly baked pizza, insinuating that Italian pizzas are contaminated with coronavirus. The voiceover can be heard to say in French, "The new Italian pizza that will travel around the world... Covid-19.”

ROME – The British ambassador to Italy, Her Excellency Jill Morris, has spoken out about antisemitism on an all-woman panel set up to explore the sociological and cultural factors that cause intolerance and discrimination. Also speaking at the event was the President of Jewish Community in Rome, Ruth Dureghello, and the Italian National coordinator for the Fight against Antisemitism, Milena Santerini.

  ROME - The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government H.E. Masrour Barzani, accompanied by a delegation of the four other government ministers, met in discussion with the Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte at his official residence the Palazzo Chigi.

  The Prime Minister Masrour Barzani thanked President Giuseppe Conte for the role Italy played in the fight against ISIS and underlined the fundamental importance of the Italian Carabinieri in training the Peshmerga and the Kurdistan region's armed forces.

ROME – Two small explosions in Rome and one in Fiumicino have injured three women, in separate attacks caused by identical devices, according to police officials. The first explosion took place late on Sunday night at the postal sorting center in via Cappannini, Fiumicino. The other two explosions occurred in Rome on Monday night, only this time in the homes of the victims.

VATICAN CITY – Pope Francis has tested negative for coronavirus, according to Vatican sources quoted by Il Mattino, putting an end to speculation as to why the pontiff had missed several appointments and was seen to be frequently coughing in his public appearances. The Vatican had always maintained that he only had a cold.
