COLOGNE – Inter Milan were beaten 3-2 by Sevilla in the Europa League final on Friday, an own-goal deciding the tie.

 The Italian side went ahead early with a penalty in the fifth minute from star Belgian striker, Romelu Lukaku. In an entertaining first-half that saw four goals, Netherlands attacker Luuk de Jong put Sevilla 2-1 up before an equaliser from Inter’s Uruguayan centre back Diego Godín.

OUAGADOUGOU – Urgent and sustained action is needed to address worsening food and nutrition insecurity in Burkina Faso, say the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), citing alarming new data.

 Some 3.3 million people are estimated to be facing acute food insecurity during the current lean season, that period which precedes the harvest in September.

PORTO CERVO, Sardinia – The popular Italian island faces another hotspot after seven employees at the Billionaire nightclub in Porto Cervo, run by Formula 1 magnate Flavio Briatore, tested positive for Coronavirus, La Repubblica reports.

 The entire staff of the nightclub are now in isolation and there are concerns the number of positive cases will increase after more tests are carried out. There is surprise at the outbreak given that the exclusive nightclub had strictly followed health and safety measures with regards to the Coronavirus.

AOSTA – A man, 39, and a woman, 36, died on Thursday after a climbing accident in the d’Ayas valley in the Italian Alps, according to Val d'Aosta Mountain Rescue. 

 The alarm was raised on Thursday evening when the two climbers’ relatives called mountain rescue after they had not returned from their excursion. Mountain rescue searched throughout the night to no avail but on Friday morning the mountaineers’ bodies were recovered after being spotted from a helicopter.

ROME – The upcoming Strade Bianche and Giro d’Italia cycling races are set to use innovative bracelets to guarantee the health of the public, athletes and journalists.

 The anti-covid “Labby Lights” bracelets, from Italian start-up MetaWellness, help manage social distancing and track social contacts. The Italian editorial group Rizzoli – Corriere della Sera decided to use the bracelets after the beginning of the first stage of Strade Bianche 2020, the Tuscan road race.

ROME – A large shipwreck off the Libyan coast saw 45 migrants drown on Monday and the UNHCR, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and IOM, the International Organization for Migration have called for more action.

 Around 37 of those on board the ship, principally migrants from Senegal, Mali, Chad and Ghana, survived after being rescued by local fishermen. They told the IOM that 45 people died , the worst such incident this year, including five minors, as a result of the explosion of the boat’s motor off the coast near Libyan city Zuwara.
