  AUCKLAND - Team New Zealand have beaten the Italian yacht Luna Rossa to win the America's Cup, the oldest international sporting trophy in the world, for the second time in a row. The Kiwis won the final race on Wednesday to end the best of 13 race series 7-3.

  MADRID - The last real hope for an Italian team to make it to the quarter finals of the Champions League was on Tuesday night extinguished when Real Madrid beat Atalanta 3-1. Though Lazio are still in the competition, they are playing an in-form Bayern Munich at home on Wednesday night, carrying a 4-1 deficit from the first leg.

  Atalanta went into this match already 1-0 down from their home first leg three weeks ago, and had a big task against the 13 times Champions League winners.

 ROME – The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has said that it ‘summarily dismissed’ a senior manager who was found guilty of sexual harassment as well as of obstructing an investigation while another staff member who sexually assaulted a colleague also was dismissed.

  NOLA - The Recovery Plan is "an extraordinary opportunity that must not be wasted,” said Senator Francesco Urraro, during a meeting this week with the President of Conf PMI (the national representative organisation for small businesses), Tommaso Cerciello.

  The meeting, which took place at the headquarter’s of the national association of employers in Nola, was concerned with the use and development of the Recovery Fund and Next Generation EU.

  NAYPYITAW – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) today warned of rising food and fuel prices as the current political unrest in Myanmar starts to impact supply chains and markets.

  Across the country, the cost of rice showed an average increase of 3 percent on monitored markets from mid-January to mid-February. However, in a few townships in Kachin state, such as Bhamo and Putao, the increases are 20-35 percent.

  ROME - Enrico Letta, the former Prime Minister of Italy, has been elected the new secretary of the Democratic Party (PD), after the former leader of two years, Nicola Zingaretti, stepped down last week. In this week's political polls, PD overtook the 5 Star Movement with a 0.8 point increase to 17.4, now second, behind the League with 24.2.

  Zingaretti stepped down amid much internal fighting, though many party members lamented the loss of a well-liked leader.

  ROME - With more regions of Italy red than not, and mainland Italy looking a distinct orange/red colour (Sardinia still white), the government have finally addressed the third wave of Covid-19 cases with an almost national lockdown. 

  This current lockdown is set to come to an end after the fully locked-down Easter weekend, and many have expressed hope that the tough restrictions of the next few weeks and the acceleration of the vaccination campaign will bring Italy closer to the light at the end of the tunnel, pandemic-wise.
