 ROME – Asti police issued arrest warrants early Thursday morning for four alleged participants in a scheme to deliver cell phones, SIM cards, chargers, and drugs by drone to inmates across Italy. The ring made 100,000 euros in profit in the last three months of 2023 and infiltrated eight prisons between Saluzzo and Agrigento.

 ROME - Italian Formula One team Scuderia Ferrari has confirmed the signing of 7-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton, "on a multi-year contract." Hamilton will join the team in 2025. The announcement from Ferrari came late on Feb. 1, the transfer deadline day. 

 This move, which has shocked the F1 world, will see Hamilton leave Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team. The Brit has raced for Mercedes since 2013, winning six of his seven world titles with them. 

 However, in recent seasons, Mercedes and Hamilton have struggled to challenge Red Bull and Verstappen for the title.

 ROME – Eight to ten hooded men armed with automatic weapons opened fire on a caravan of armoured cars Wednesday morning on Sardinia’s Carlo Felice State Highway 131, police said. The commando fled south from a shootout with police and carabinieri by FIAT Panda and pickup truck, leaving eight injured and making off with an estimated four million euros in cash.

 VATICAN CITY - Pope Francis has encouraged people to break free from the chains of personal slavery and rebuild bonds of universal brotherhood in his Lenten message.

 The pope said the “earth, air and water are polluted, but so are our souls", describing how many people harbour an "inexplicable longing for slavery" in their hearts. He warned that humanity is currently experiencing “a model of growth that divides and robs us of a future” which makes us “weary and indifferent.”

 ROME - Farmers throughout Italy have blocked numerous roads to protest fuel prices, competition from non-EU markets and EU regulations on uncultivated land, amongst other reasons, police said.

 Tractors have blocked multiple roads across Italy. In Brescia, farmers blocked the motorway tollbooth for an hour on Wed/tues. In Udine at least 70 tractors came from across the Friuli region on Mon. 29 to block the tollbooths and on Wed. 31, at least 30 tractors continuously drove around a roundabout on the A1.

 ROME - New street art depicting detained Ilaria Salis has appeared near the Hungarian Embassy in Rome, as outrage continues over the Italian’s treatment by Hungarian authorities.

 The artwork which appeared overnight can be found at the intersection of via dei Villini and via Malpighi. It depicts Salis breaking free from her chains, by which she was dragged into a Budapest courtroom. Written on her dress are the words “Ilaria resists.”
